Our team was asked to build out the strategy, develop the brand, and design the interface for a start-up commodity exchange that enables the sale of graphite from Ceylon Graphite's (CYL:TSX-V) mining operation in Sri Lanka. The mine’s output will be measured, tracked, and documented through DComm's authentication tools and immortalised in blockchain.
To build a digital commodity exchange on which minerals and metals used in the renewable industry can be bought and sold, as commodities.

I led the design of a new brand identity and interface for a trading platform aimed at high-income earners – a future-focused brand, highlighting sustainability and blockchain technology.
The Savala colour palette was developed by directly interrogating the commodities that will be traded on the platform. It taps into the rich and organic hues found in these metals and minerals, to communicate authenticity and highlight the natural beauty of the product.
Desire Pro is a font that has a lot of character. It’s sophisticated and draws inspiration from magazines such as The New Yorker, publications that our audience read – smart, innovative –ultimately an extension of how they see themselves.
'Savala' is Sinhalese for shovel – to dig, to excavate, to shift. The form of the icon is inspired by the hexagonal composition of graphite, with the cut-outs representing the process of getting these commodities out of the ground.
I was tasked with designing the interface for a blockchain-powered platform where graphite can be bought and traded. As graphite is a leading material used in the production of lithium-ion batteries, it's an investment in a more sustainable future.
The Savala trading interface was inspired by news media and other written publications. The idea was to create a platform that looked as sophisticated as the audience feels. Using the hues found in these minerals, a soft palette was developed to help highlight the natural beauty of the product. This idea was woven throughout the UI design.
The core screens required for the Savala platform were the investor dashboard, purchasing page, order log and help centre. The dashboard required three info sections with the ability to toggle between graph and list views, alongside running totals.
As a way to communicate the positive impact users are having on sustainability, I recommended the inclusion of a status module that would convert your graphite investment into product output for electric vehicles. This updates in real-time to give the user an idea of how impactful their actions are being in a real-world setting.
